The Annual Art and Gourmet Show
|
Creating A
Healing Society
The Art and Gourmet Show is an annual event which supports the important
work of The Catalyst Foundation, including the Creating a Healing Society
program. It’s a creative, fun, and meaningful event which features top local,
national, and international artists, photographers, and jewelers. It includes
great music and food, a free wine tasting, and an enjoyable atmosphere for
the entire community. Photos from recent events coming soon.
The event motto: “celebrating humanity through creative expression” highlights
our desire to present a wide variety of creative works from many sources while
offering an opportunity to give back and make a positive difference in the
world. Past artists have included: Suzie Richey, Dennis Calaba, David Faust,
Donna Weil, Sal Vasquez, Joel Kolb, Glen Knowles, Kris Holladay-Fregoso,
and the works of international artists Renee Ragi and photographer Emerson
Matabele, as well as many others. One of the participant groups who so well
represent our commitment and belief in the power of personal transformational
change, and its profound effect on society, is the prisoner art group Artists
Serving Humanity. This prisoner art group has as its mission to give back and
to create positive change in society through their work. Each year these
award winning artists donate dozens of beautiful oil and pastel paintings for
auction at the Art and Gourmet show raising tens of thousands of dollars to
help create a better world for those most in need. Many of the prisoners do
this work as an expression of their desire for redemption and/or as an
expression of their love and caring for others.
The artists are absolutely dedicated to helping the needy and most of them
spend hundreds of hours each year doing just that. Through their tireless
efforts they support many organizations including: Toys For Tots (with the
USMC), Royal Kids Camp for abused and neglected children, local domestic
violence shelters, the Archdiocese of Pasadena, the International Special
Olympics, and several other groups and organizations.
Artists Serving Humanity and the work of the prisoner artists is made possible
because of their location within the Honor Program at California State Prison –
Los Angeles County. The Honor Program is an extraordinary prison
environment where personal change and good works have been actualized
and are made manifest in society.
Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information or are
interested in attending, volunteering, sponsoring, showing your work,
